Throughout the Hebrew curriculum this year, we have explored the importance of names in Judaism. We read the story Yad Vashem by Aaron Meged about a family living in Israel after the Holocaust. The family could not agree on a name for the new born child that pleased both generations, those born in Israel and those born in the Diaspora. As a class, we wrote a rap in Hebrew, emphasizing the important parts of the story. In this way, we found an original and modern solution to keep the name discussed in the story, Mendeleh, alive.
